The unthinkable happened and I bought a BJD doll. Omg!
For those who doesn't know, BJD (ball jointed dolls) are those expensive beautiful resin dolls that's oh so popular these days. Being a Blythe/Pullip fan, I kinda fancied them but never got myself too interested cos I just can't justify the price.

Usually, BJD dolls range from US$250-god knows how much they're going for these days, and that's for a hunk of resin. No clothes included, no eyes, no hair, not even the makeup*. Sometimes they don't even supply a body. They do throw in the bag and some cushions for free, but come on. Well, I think the super expensive ones (about US$1k above) include the whole schmeer, but I haven't been researching much.

Clothes are at least US$50 for a nice set, and I've seen outfits that go above US$250. Appalling! Glass eyes are always at least US$30, and wigs, I don't know, but I think expensive also. So the whole thing comes to quite alot.
So. Would you pay so much for a doll? Neither would I. That and I'm very picky, so while I've browsed through here and there, I've never found my perfect doll. Yeah, they're all very pretty and all, but my aesthetics are very precise and ones that are absolutely gorgeous to me are always very expensive and/or sold out. So that's that.

Anyways, so I was so suprised when Nefla gave me a link to Mythdoll.com. I just visited it out of curiousity, then my jaws dropped when I saw the absolutely gorgeous doll I've always wanted. And it dropped somemore when I saw the package and the price! Check it out! A gorgeous complete doll, including the wigs and clothes, for only US$180. Well, not makeup and eyes, but nevermind. I think makeup could be purchased separately for about US$20, so I'm gonna get that. And I'll probably just get some cheap acrylic eyes that cost about US$7, no worries. And I'll probably also change the wig, cos while this one is very pretty, yes, it kinda reminds me alot of my friend Carlyn, and that's kinda disturbing. We'll see.

So altogether about US$240 (I'm told to expect shipping around US$40-50). Okay, so I vaguely think there's probably better deals somewhre but what the hell. This one is just gorgeous. I researched alot too, and she's quite good quality, even rivalling some of the high-end dolls.

The outfit sucks though, but she'll probably stay in those until I feel rich enough to get her some clothes that cost more than mine. Sheesh.

So that's that. Pretty okay huh? I'm still waiting for their confirmation and shipping info email, I keep checking my email every 15 mins or so.. and I'm waiting for Nefla to reply to me about the wig, eyes and clothes sizes (she has one too) so I can shop around for those.

For the name? I haven't raelly decided yet, but I've kinda got my heart set on Islington. A lovely name don't you think? Quite influenced by Neil Gaiman's book 'Neverwhere', but not based on the character. I just think it is a lovely name.

The other girls are soooo nervous and jealous. Hehe.

*BJD owners always refer to the dolls' makeups as 'face-ups'. Personally I find this ridiculous. So maybe the Japanese or whoever got the english all wrong and call it that, but since we speak english, I think we should refer it as makeup. Whatever. I also hate calling dollmeets 'tea parties'. But that's just personal.

Congratulations on getting Islington! I am curious if you ordered directly through the Mythdoll website and if you are pleased with the service. How long did it take you to get your doll?

Did you keep her stock eyes and redo her face-up?

    thanks,
    Luckyl
